Domaine Coursodon

Northern Rhone, France | website

Father and son, Pierre and Jerome Coursodon, produce stunning St. Joseph wines in the town of Mauves. Pierre manages the vineyards while son, Jerome, is at the helm of winemaking. Pierre particularly emphasizes vineyard management as being crucial to making top quality wine. On the other hand, Jerome eschews dogma about anything regarding viticulture and vinification and is very willing to experiment with more modern techniques. For example, he regards fining or filtration as a positive in winemaking if properly used. Together, father and son are a formidable winemaking team and among the rising stars of St Joseph.

2014 Domaine Coursodon St Joseph L'Olivaie

Just released

This is a serious wine that drinks well early. The fruit is harvested from vineyards planted in the 1940‘s. In the glass, fully ripe fruit bounded by savory tannins offers delightfully delineated focus. It is usually my favourite of the line-up because it carries great depth and better purity in its youth than the higher- end cuvees. In time, the Paradis St Pierre will outclass the Olivaie, but in the short to mid terms, this is the essence of Coursodon.
