Jacquesson Et Fils

Champagne, France | website

Jacquesson, which was founded in 1798, was one of the very first Champagne houses. Today the prestigious firm is run by the Chiquet brothers, Laurent and Jean Herve. Their focused dedication is bases on one thing: creating the highest quality Champagnes that can be made. Their reputation as one of the top producers in all of Champagne is second to none. When I visited with Jean Herve last year we tasted the full range of Champagnes. I was blown away by the purity, depth of concentration and overall elegance and balance that each wine showed. If you are a real Champagne lover then you will not want to miss these extraordinary Champagnes.

2005 Avize Champs Cain single vineyard Blanc de Blanc

$325.00

Very rare and allocated. Please inquire!

"Jacquesson's 2005 Avize-Champ Gain is all about volume, depth and texture. Dried apricot, honey, smoke and mint flesh out in an expansive Champagne built on power and muscle to match a decidedly vertical sense of structure. The 2005 needs air, as it develops nicely with further time in the glass. Disgorged October 2014. Dosage was 2.5 grams/liter."

2005 Dizy Corne Bautray Blanc de Blanc

$325.00

Very rare and allocated. Please inquire!

"The 2005 Dizy-Corne Bautray, Chardonnay from vines planted in 1960, is wonderfully nuanced and complex. A warm, resonant bouquet laced with smoke, dried apricots, mint and white pepper. The style is rich, ample and resonant, with gorgeous textural depth and volume. I would prefer to drink the 2005 sooner rather than later, as the flavors are already quite forward, although the wine does seem to freshen up a touch with time in the glass. Wild flowers, mint, Poire William and sage add the final layers of nuance on the high-toned, expressive finish. Disgorged October 2014. Dosage was 1.5 grams/liter."

Jacquesson Cuvee 738 (2010 harvest)

$79.00
More coming soon

Jacquesson's Cuvée 738 comes across as powerful and rough around the edges, especially in the mousse, which is a bit grainy in texture. There is plenty of weight and depth through the mid-palate and finish, although a little less finesse than some other recent versions. Dried flowers, mint, honey and dried stone fruits wrap around the finish. This is an especially burly wine from Jacquesson. It will be interesting to see what more time in bottle brings. There is no shortage of power, but whether the wine develops a bit more finesse remains an open question at this stage. It's possible a little higher dosage might have softened the contours. The 738 is based on the 2010 vintage, with 33% reserve wines. The blend is 61% Chardonnay, 21% Pinot Meunier and 18% Pinot Noir. Disgorged July 2014. Dosage is 2.5 grams/liter.
